Chainmail dress

I did this dress back in Spring of 2010. It is made of anodized aluminum rings, and took three months of assembly, and one month of design. The bulk of the dress is made with 4 in 1 weave, with the belt, and trim dragon scale and half Persian.

 

The back design has a silver inlay dragon whose tail wraps around to the front and back. The front design is based off of a kimono wrap. Below has the belt I made for it as well, though omitted in the above shots.

LEGO Benedict Cumberbatch

 My current largest piece, a mosaic of Benedict Cumberbatch! He is the actor for Sherlock, Khan from Star Trek, Warhorse, and Parade's End. The mosaic is made of only the black plate for the background, and 1x1 clear bricks. The shades come from stacking multiple clear bricks on top of one another to get different shades of grey.

To give you an idea of size, here is me standing next to the piece. It is roughly 3 feet tall.

Photoshoot weekend

So I fiinally got around to having some time to take photos of all of my work since January. I did not get it all pictured, but now most of it is, so I can tear down and build new lego pieces. I also jumped painting skill levels on my miniatures, and have photos of the new work. I also got some nice anime figures from anime expo that I might post as well.

This piece went through five iterations before coming to it's final look. It was showcased in Brickworld Chicago 2012, and the Mies Birthday party.

I finished the Eldar costume, I wore it for Games Day, A-cen and Wizard World Chicago. I won third place for best costume at Games Day.

That is me on the left. The Space Marine on the far right is a statue.

The last year

So although this blog hasn't been updated, I have been very busy. I finished college, and have gotten very busy with most of my projects. I have been to quite a few convention, including Gen-con and Anime Expo. I do photo shoots of my work with a friend for finalized photos, which won't be posted as often here as they are on my MOC pages and in my portfolio. That said, feel free to comment on what you see.

So I have been building lots of legos for my portfolio for a job. I also have lego crown kind of built, still working on finishing it.

Dragon Minifigure

I have taken batman's wings and glued them to the tail piece of the dinosaur minifig to make him a dragon. Doesn't he look hungry

Game table update

I have added the bottom shelf, and taken pictures of it with the green grass felt, and models on it.  All the models in it is my entire painted high elf army. Next step will be to add drawers, but for now this is it.

For the bottom section, it is a simple frame and screws, nothing fancy, but I used chalk lines to place holes. Overall this table construction technique is between furniture and building frames for houses.

Trim and other pieces along with the drawers will be added later, but the top is fully finished, sanded and covered in a clear coat.

Fulcrum for Storms of Magic

The Oak Park GW store had a fulcrum contest. Bring in a built and painted fulcrum using terrain kits. I won with this one, built out of the dreadfire portal and eternity stairs kit and the dreadstone blight kit. The piece itself is bigger than the witch Tor tower. This one i used no pins, just the magic of glue to hold it together, though one of the platforms never touches the center pillar, and it's surprising it is even staying up for how much transportation it has gotten already.

So for winning, a duplicate one is going to be at the store (which I get to rebuild it), with my name on it saying designed by me.

Shoulder pads

I have I finally finished the shoulder pads, though one looks much better than the other. These are finished just in time for games day, so hopefully a full farseer will be coming. I tried a different fiberglass company for the epoxy, and it worked out soo much faster for hardening time frame.

Game Table

I am building a 4x6 inside game table for furniture class.  It has a 4" recessed area for playing, 4x6 inside area for games. There is a lip so table leaves can be added to make the table flat and cover up the game underneath for later use. The second shelf will eventually have drawers added to it. There will also be under the table storage space, to hold my architecture and taj mahal models, as well as a small place for books. The lip of the table is over 3" big, allowing glasses, and comfortable arm rest area available while playing at the table. More pictures will be added later, hopefully once it is done for furniture class, and then again for the final.

LEGO Waterfall

So here are pictures of the waterfall. The raft version was shown at Brickworld 2011 and with lights was during the world of lights and sounds on Saturday night at Brickworld. We ran a train through it during Brickworld, in the middle of a bigger display with my mom and I.

Project status

Farseer costume is 3/4 done, I wore if for A-cen, but it worked out well. I have been working on a seer council on jetbike conversion from hellions tat is coming along as well.  Also Brickworld this weekend, I am displaying stuff with my mother. I have built a waterfall, hopefully well received. No pictures, since I have been so busy. Studio for the spring is done, and I am now into the summer semester, going to work on furniture and more studio. Hopefully more LEGO pictures to come too, and costuming.

Studio - round pavillion

So I will break from my costume stuff, to show my awesome, even more amazing thing I am doing for class. We are building a full scale version of what we want to put as our project for the farnsworth house pavilion. It is much cooler than any pictures, as we have done all you see in basically 1 day, realistically 2 cause 1 day was set up, but yeah, is lots of fun, and worth my no sleep to get it.

So here are our pictures, hopefully more to come later.

Farseer Helmet fiberglass

I have started putting fiberglass resin on the helmet, It has not worked out quite as well as I had wanted, but hopefully will still work out in the end.

Pictures of me working with all the chemicals, and the helmet so far (about 1/3 to half fiberglass). Also shoulder pad 1 is done, we'll see how it turns out.

The shine on the helmet is where the resin is and the fabric. To apply the fiberglass, you take the resin and coat it  and lay fabric down, then coat again till you see the color beneath. A lot of fun, but a lot of work and the resin is like painting syrup. Next step, more resin.

So today was paint the helmet mold day. Also found a lot of spare supplies lying around including fiberglass materials after I just went to home depot and bought some. Spare cans of paint too, which is why the helmet looks a ghastly color. Though also found silver spray paint. Pictures of my new loot and storage space below.  Pictures of the painted helmet, next step is to paint the bottom side a second coat, then fiberglass.

 Also planning to fiberglass the shoulder pads, rather than vacuum form. Hopefully more success this way.

eldar farseer costume

For games day I am building a Eldar farseer costume. For those who don't know, a farseer is a games workshop character and model, played for tabletop gaming. They are space elves. Like most costumes I have done, I have broken down all the elements into smaller projects; a staff, 2 shoulder pads, helmet, rune armor, sash, cloak, robe, and decorative bits.

I have been working on this costume since janurary 2011, and am fabricating the staff, shoulder pads, helmet and rune armor using the materials shop at school. Now onto the progress so far made.

Staff:

Lathed in three parts, with a fastening screws in the middle that allow it to come apart and go back together without a problem. At the bottom is a aluminum counter weight, that I sand casted in class. Next step: painting, maybe adding gem in middle of triangle.

Shoulder Pads:

The old one you can see in the first picture. The second mold, also in this picture is done with pink foam and then used green sculpt clay for the rigid. Then covered in plaster, and made the negative of the form. I want a vacuum formed final product. Next step: create plaster positive.





Helmet:

Pink foam core, cardboard crest (multiple layers), easter egg halves used for gems, and blue sculpt clay for the pattern. This will be eventually covered and epoxy in fiberglass, then burn the pink foam inside so i can wear it. Next step: bando the entire helmet.

Hi everyone,

So after many recent projects all going on at once, and many getting semi more completed than normal, I have decided to put a blog up for all of the random creations and projects that I do. This way then, family, friends and others can see and share the cool things I have done.
